Katie and Oliver got married in that blurry time between Christmas and New Year in 2024. What a brilliant time to have a wedding! When ordinarily, by this part of the year, time is a nebulous concept, it was great to have a big event to look forward to. Didsbury House Hotel was the perfect venue for this smaller wedding of about 40 people in total, and it was still in all its Christmas cheer.

The ceremony room is quite small, but it comfortably accommodated all the guests, as well as me and my second shooter, a guitarist and a rather fetching Christmas tree. The ceremony happens in front of a large bay window, meaning the couple were lit naturally throughout the ceremony. They were accompanied by their beautiful toddler, and the strength emanating from the three of them as a perfect little unit was tangible.

I think that was the overriding feeling that I came away with from Katie and Oliver’s wedding - that they are so happy, and so lucky to have found each other, and the other people. This is a common thread that tends to run through all smaller weddings. Every guest there is chosen. There are no superfluous guests, no one invited to make up the numbers, or to keep tricksy family members satisfied. Everyone there was a big part of the day, and that was magical.

Other highlights include: plenty of fist bumps (look out for the one at the end of the ceremony); a post-dinner quiz; no set first dance, but just a having a jig when they felt like it; his and hers bathtubs - a must have hero shot that I couldn’t get out of my head from the minute I spotted them in Katie’s bathroom! Thankfully she agreed.
