Amber + Yusef’s Wedding At The Whitworth Gallery, Manchester
Amber and Yusef got married at The Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester and I photographed it (I know it’s right there in the title, but starting a blog post is a bit like when you’re told to write a story in English at school and you’re not sure how to get the ball rolling, so you state the bleedin’ obvious first to get it out the way. Allow me to continue). They’re a pretty laid back, chill couple, so my laid-back documentary style worked a treat in getting some lovely fly-on-the-wall style photos.
Before the Wedding
Prior to this, however, we met up for a preshoot. I don’t normally chat about these on the old blog, but this one deserves a special mention, because within 60 seconds of starting to take their photos, it started to rain. I know we love to chat about weather in this country, but this was something else. The deluge lasted about 15 minutes, during which time the three of us got soaked right through down to our pants. “What shall we do?” we all looked at one another. “Let’s just do it,” Amber decided, and they just started dancing in it. From that moment I knew these two were the kind of match you dream of making, and that their wedding would be awesome.
Particular highlights from the wedding include: the quickest ceremony known to man, Amber telling me she was wearing a dress made by Nic Cage’s wife (actually Nick Cave but I’ll forgive her, weddings are hectic); persuading the best man not to launch the confetti basket at Amber and Yusef; Yusef’s dad’s dancefloor shapes. Oh and the lovely wedding coordinator who kept hunting me down and forcing me to drink water. Dehydration is not a photographer’s friend, and I wish she could follow me around permanently.
