Jem + Russ Get Hitched In sheffield
29th of February. Leap year day. Grey skies and strong winds (shh, not that kind). Almond croissant and flat white consumed (get me, so hipster), I headed into a Sheffield hotel for the wedding of two actual Super Heroes. Jem and Russ both work as nurses in the NHS, and received their photos from me during lockdown. Whenever I’m shooting up north I always feel at home. Yorkshire folks are so warm and welcoming, and walking into the hotel room where Jem was getting suited and booted with her mum, gran and friends felt like walking into a room full of my own family. I can just imagine how these qualities make them incredible at their demanding jobs.
So first up, let’s talk about Jem’s amazing bridal style. Her buzzed silver hair, plus stockings with hearts up the back, leopard print studded flats and her leopard print jacket were amazing ways to bring Jem’s personal style (she’s a metaller) to a more traditional bridal look. With the dress on, she looked like every bit the rockstar bride.
There are so many stand-out lovely moments from this wedding. The ceremony was full of smiles and laughter. Jem walked in to Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, and they walked back out to Highway to Hell by AC/DC. We went for the super chilled approach to their group shots, of a documentary style “have a chat and a giggle” that I felt was most appropriate for this couple’s chilled vibe. And the couples shots are some of my all-time favourites! This pair really kept me on my toes. We’d go through something lovely and romantic without it looking too soppy and intimate, and then they’d start cantering around like horses! This was all capped off with some lovely speeches, and a killer first dance lip sync to It’s a Kinda Magic by Queen.
Cheers for having me, Jem and Russ. You are a perfect match and I loved photographing your wedding!
