Ellie and Joe first contacted me about a year ago to photograph their wedding ceremony at Chelsea Old Town Hall in London. As two brits living and working in New York, they always planned to have a wedding of two halves - a small ceremony attended by family and celebrated in a pub, followed by a larger, weekend-long celebration in the south of Italy. After hitting it off in London, I was delighted when Ellie asked if I’d like to join them to document their wedding at Masseria Salamina in Fasano, Puglia.

New places = new inspiration

From time to time, I’m asked if I’ve worked at a venue before. I understand why a couple might want to know this, because some venues, particularly historic buildings, have their quirks. Not only was I new to this part of Italy, but I’d never shot a wedding abroad before. Thankfully Ellie and I share a preparedness characteristic, so between our efforts I was ready to take this in my stride. It was a joy and a pleasure to work outside of the UK. Not just for the Italian food but the light, the architecture, the colours, they’re all different to what I experience regularly in the UK. I didn’t feel thrown in at the deep end - I felt inspired to capture it all.

Ellie and Joe

After a tumultuous year, Ellie and Joe deserved this chance to celebrate with their friends and family. As with all weddings, those who couldn’t be there were sorely missed and there were some incredibly emotional parts of the day. But those who were there absolutely brought the vibes, and partied accordingly. Without further ado, here’s a sneak peek at their photos.
