The background.

In February 2021 we sold our home in Derbyshire and moved to Cheshire to be closer to family. Several nailbiting months passed as we waited for everything to complete. One evening, my husband addressed the elephant in the room by declaring “I’m going to get a Wrexham season ticket!” I rolled my eyes, envisaging me, sat alone surrounded by boxes while he sang his heart out on the side of a freezing cold pitch. Imagine our surprise when just a couple of weeks later, the football team he’d been watching since his family moved to Wrexham in the mid-90s became global news. He managed to snap up a season ticket just in time, and most Saturdays when I’m dashing all over the country photographing weddings, I get messages telling me about Paul Rudd or Hugh Jackman walking around the Racecourse.

I’d say that’s enough about Wrexham, but it’s kind of pertinent to Becky and Craig’s story. Becky and Craig are North Wales born and bred. They’re an outdoorsy couple, they love exploring the Llyn Peninsula (everyone should visit, it’s beautiful), hanging out with their friends and family, and going to watch Wrexham. This is where our paths cross. My husband got his season ticket, along with his dad and our son. It’s a great day out for them (almost) every time. And sitting right beside my husband, sometimes twice a week, is John - Becky’s dad.

One night at the beginning of 2023, my husband came home after a match and said “the bloke I sit next to at the footie wants to talk to you, I gave him your card.” The rest is history! Becky and Craig had a chat with me, we talked about Ryan Reynolds quite a lot (but secretly agree that Rob McElhenney was the real driving force), and they told me all about their wedding. They wanted relaxed, happy photos that include some of the outdoors with as little posing as possible. These words are the exact things I strive for! I couldn’t wait to get to know them better and capture their wedding day.

The Wedding At Plas Isaf.

Plas Isaf is a semi-hidden treat of a venue. I’ve unknowingly driven past it countless times on my way to Snowdonia. It’s a cosy venue built of stone. It feels hidden and private, but it has an outdoor bar and a cabin on site. There’s not really much more you could ask for! Craig and Becky wanted a simple, pared back day for people to just relax. Becky made so many autumnal decorations, from decoupage jars with candles in them to pressed flowers and bouquets. She even made their stationery. Becky’s vision for the day was flawlessly executed, and everyone was full of compliments.

My favourite thing about Plas Isaf is how lovely it is to work there. We definitely have overlapping ideals when it comes to running our businesses. Plas Isaf has been going for 18 years, and it’s purely for weddings. However, unlike so many venues, they never want couples or guests to feel that they’re at a wedding factory, so they focus on a single wedding per week. What a fantastic thing to do! This ethos came through in everything - the service was fantastic, bespoke and friendly, and I’d recommend Plas Isaf to couples in a heartbeat.
